Power distribution has taken a front seat to power design with two new products. American Power Conversion hopes its new power distribution unit will be the one-stop shop for protecting data centers. Its PDU offers up to 11 sub-feed breakers and is designed to use with the APC Silcon series of UPSs. Meanwhile, Broadband TelCom Power's answer to power distribution is its BTC1036 rectifier power module. It offers an 800 W AC/DC distributed power architecture for telecom and Internet applications.
HiTek's HiFlex series now offers hot-pluggable capabilities in its new HF-16 modular power system. The AC/DC power supply provides as much as 25 outputs without a minimum load requirement and has a built-in sharing system, which saves at least 15 W per module.
The Powerware Division of Invensys now has a hat trick in its UPS product family. The Powerware 9330 uses a mathematical approach to parallel redundancy, avoiding the need for additional circuitry and wiring between modules. By moving away from mechanical paralleling, the 9330 all but eliminates the possibility of a single point of failure.
