“A telco operator comes in and says you don’t have to be scared,” Heynen said. “Basically you can do what you are doing in the past, just get a new antenna, or you can come with us and we have content geared towards you. We offer VOD that is easy and intuitive. We’ll make that transition easy for you. It’ll be interesting to see if any operators go after that. Certainly in America, Verizon and AT&T are going after the 18-to-34 year old market. It’s certainly not a priority for them at this point.”
While no one has yet to replicate this service, Jones said Broadband Capital is beginning to get inquiries from other companies within the UK, as well as overseas. Just today, an insurance company in the US asked how they could integrate this into their delivery of health services. A US-based insurance company has the same requirements as a commissioner of health in the UK, Jones pointed out. They need to understand as much as they can about each individual, and it’s in their interest to get that individual to access information that will keep them healthier longer.
“We’re quite interested to have those conversations with people in the US because actually the model is very transferable,” he said. “It’s a question of the delivery architecture, which itself is not that difficult to address either. It’s just a matter of understanding the regional or national differences.”
The EU is putting the equivalent of $10 billion into health care technologies over the next three years, he added, and the integration of TV into the process is picking up more attention – at least across Europe.Want to use this article? Click here for options!
