In a statement issued today, the carrier pledged to spend $250 million “throughout the next several years in fiber network upgrades, further broadband deployment and Internet-based technologies in South Carolina.”

The company, which has deployed fiber-to-the-node networks in its own local territory, hasn’t explicitly stated its plans yet for the network it obtained by acquiring BellSouth, which has deployed fiber-to-the-curb.

“AT&T is in the process of implementing the AT&T U-verse network in the Southeast region and plans to provide a comprehensive update later this year, “ the company said today.

The announcement came in connection with the passage of a state law in South Carolina allowing for statewide video service franchises as opposed to individual municipal ones.

The pledge of spending does not change AT&T’s projections for total capital expenditure this year or next, the company said.
