NRTC HD channel count hits 100
New agreements help rural telco association beef up its wholesale programming resources for members
The National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative (NRTC) announced that it can now offer its rural telco members 100 HD channels for their IPTV services through its TelcoVideo wholesale platform. The HD count reached 100 after the execution of several new distribution agreements resulted in the addition of eight new HD channels.

The new agreements include several channels of sports programming that were announced last month, but also account for other new channels announced this week, including Fox Soccer Channel HD, FX HD, Speed HD, Nat Geo Wild HD and MSNBC-HD. The additions are the latest of several enhancements NRTC has made to its TelcoVideo offering over the last year and a half.
Recent Nielsen Co. research showed that while the number of homes with HDTVs continues to rise sharply, actual viewing numbers for HD content remain modest. Still, cable TV firms and telco and satellite TV competitors continue to make HD a competitive hot-button in their marketing promotions.
