Once the mobile Web site is up to speed, companies can focus on the other benefits mobile brings, he said. This includes mobile advertising, search and the ability to engage with customers and conduct promotional activities through texting and marketing – but first companies have to get the experience right.
“The marketing techniques you can use change slightly,” Bovingdon said. “You have much more power in terms of being able to stimulate people to react to advertising at the point of contact with the ad. You can start to do things like texting to drive people to mobile Web sites. You can also get them to subscribe and send them texts – really start to build a much more personal, stronger relationship with consumers because mobile is a personal medium.”
