The one-time largest telecommunications trade show Supercomm will not be returning in 2010. According to a brief press release, Expocomm events will not renew its contract to manage Supercomm again this year, effectively shelving the show for this year and potentially indefinitely. The event had been planned for the week of October 25 in Chicago.

The decision was made after careful review and counsel with co-owing Supercomm associations, Telecommunications Industry Association and USTelecom, the release said. The show had been struggling to attract attendees for the past few years, and has undergone several ownership and name changes. In 2009, the show – scheduled for June in Chicago was pushed back until October in hopes of cashing in broadband stimulus funding. For the most part, however, Supercomm has been overshadowed by other wireless and device-centric shows, including CTIA and the Consumer Electronics Show.

The Supercomm co-owning associations have also decided against producing an event in 2010, the release said.
