Sonus Networks acquired OSS vendor Atreus Systems to add IP voice and services provisioning to its carrier-grade IP services offerings. Terms were not disclosed.

Atreus specializes in network management, billing and customer care capabilities for IP-based networks. Sonus' delivers IP voice infrastructure products, including border and media control, session control and IP applications, to wireline and wireless providers.

The acquisition enables Sonus to provide a more complete IP infrastructure solution to carriers, simplifying IP network deployments for service providers, Hassan Ahmed, CEO at Sonus Networks, said in a statement, noting that Sonus and Atreus had previously worked closely as partners in carrier IP deployments. "Our five-year relationship with Atreus convinced us that its technology will help accelerate the industry’s growth and complement our access solution portfolio," Ahmed said.

Atreus’ IP provisioning software is used by carriers including Level 3, Spirit Telecom and Telus. The platform delivers pre-integrated, automated provisioning and configuration for a variety of devices, helping providers to deploy IP services more quickly.

IP-focused OSS acquisitions are suddenly all the rage. Subex acquired Syndesis last year while Amdocs recently acquired JacobsRimell.

Last year, Sonus acquired mobile VoIP provider Zynetix, whose products fueled Sonus' recent leap into mobile VoIP applications.
