Reliance Globalcom is gearing up to compete for global data business with the likes of AT&T, Verizon Business, BT, Orange Business and others, combining the resources of its recent acquisitions to create a global footprint and a diverse service portfolio. The new Reliance Globalcom Data Business will leverage the private, undersea cable capacity of Flag Telecom, the virtual networking partnerships of Vanco Group and the Ethernet data services expertise of Yipes Enterprises to create a robust portfolio of services with greatly extended reach, said Mark Thompson, newly appointed president of the unit.
“We will be able to offer managed network services and applications over a network that is unrivalled in its reach, depth and breadth,” Thompson said in a phone interview. “This is a situation where the sum is greater than the individual parts. We can combine what each of these units did well and deliver that over a global platform.”
That service portfolio will include fully-managed and flexible services, including next generation managed WAN, remote access, security, application acceleration, convergence, data protection and hosting services. Thompson said.
Reliance Globalcom Services, formerly known as Yipes, is known for its Ethernet offerings but was very focused on North America, Thompson said. Vanco Group built a global managed service offering as a virtual network operator, through agreements with more than 750 partners in more than 230 countries, while Flag operated a private fiber optic cable spanning 65,000 route kilometers.
The combination of these resources enables Reliance Globalcom Data Business to offer a one-stop shop to enterprises and carriers looking to connect globally, Thompson said, offering managed end-to-end services, something multinational corporations and carriers need today. While acknowledging the challenge of taking multinational giants, Thompson believes Reliance is ready to compete and has a unique offering.
“Through our partners, we have people on the ground in places that other operators don’t,” Thompson said. “We are able to deliver services more rapidly and with greater reliability.”
