BroadSoft’s Ferry said she believes that is typical of the different ways in which service providers will make use of the Xtended platform. In addition to the five announced customers, Ferry said eight additional providers have Xtended in their labs or on their 2009 roadmaps, and another 12 have expressed strong interest. That latter group includes two large, un-named incumbents that Ferry hopes will move toward deployment in 2009.

In other developments, Ferry said the Xtended developer ecosystem has grown to 1500 developers, with 20 live applications including call control clients for Mac Os (Attache’), mobile devices (MobileSet), Adobe Air (QuickSet) and the Apple iPhone (Xtended Dialier).

BroadSoft is in the process of adding e-commerce capabilities to its Xtended Marketplace to help developers monetize their applications, but the biggest upside for developers has been “to help them connect with service providers who have requested specific apps they want developed,” she said.
