SmarTone-Vodafone moves to improve mobile OSS

By using Comptel’s centralized subscriber repository, the operator hopes to make subscriber data more consistent and accessible.

With customer experience on the minds of operators around the world, SmarTone-Vodafone wanted to bring together user-related information (e.g., user service configurations and allocated price plans) coming from disparate sources and minimize development efforts when integrating new service platforms. As a result, the Hong Kong-based operator has tapped Comptel (NASDAQ OMX Helsinki: CTL1V) to replace a generic user profile system with Comptel’s Subscriber Repository.

The Comptel Subscriber Repository is designed to allow operators to monitor business-critical customer status and activity information across multiple networks. Data is dynamically maintained by key operator processes including charging and fulfillment, which ensures that the Comptel Subscriber Repository can offer a precise view of subscribers’ services and charging models.

With its deployment, SmarTone-Vodafone hopes to streamline its operations support systems (OSS) and minimize development efforts when combining service platforms. The announcement with Comptel means the operator can avoid having to store and maintain user profile images across several different service platforms, as the new repository will centrally store user profile images. SmarTone-Vodafone also expects it will be able to more expeditiously return consistent and accurate user profile information to data queries by its service platforms.

"SmarTone-Vodafone has had a subscriber repository for years now but wanted to optimise it to best suit our environment and needs. Comptel has provided us with reliable, dynamic OSS software for nearly 18 years, and its solution will help us to continue delivering to our customers differentiated and compelling services as well as unrivalled customer care," said Stephen Chau, chief technology officer for SmarTone-Vodafone.

The Comptel Subscriber Repository was created to exploit the value of customer data and improve the efficiency of customer-facing applications. Its architecture is based on industry standards relevant to the creation and management of subscriber profiles (3GPP Subscriber Profile Repository and the TeleManagement Forum's Information Framework).
