Covad, Verizon ink link-sharing deal

Covad Communications has signed its third major line-sharing agreement, this time with Verizon. Combined with its previous agreements with SBC Communications and Qwest Communications, the latest deal means Covad has agreements in place to cover 90% of its service territory.

The two companies had reached an interim deal in September and that remains in place until Jan. 1, 2005, when the new four-year agreement kicks in.

DSL line-sharing allows Covad to sell a DSL service on the same line a customer is using to receive phone service. That both speeds provisioning and cuts down costs for the CLEC.
