Cogent has acquired the assets and the approximately 400 customers of Global Access Internet Services, a German ISP with 19 employees, all of whom will be offered continued employment, Cogent said.
A Cogent spokesperson said the company is unable to comment further on the acquisition.
Cogent made its first European acquisition in January, using 3.5% of its own equity to purchase LambdaNet, whose point-to-point layer-one networks spanned 40 markets, primarily in France and Spain. LambdaNet’s assets included a German subsidiary that served parts of Austria, Germany and the Czech Republic. When Cogent announced the acquisition, CEO David Schaeffer said the subsidiary, LambdaNet Germany, would not be fully merged into Cogent until the subsidiary completes its own restructuring.
In March, Cogent purchased dark fiber and other network assets from distressed German firm Carrier1 International for $19.5 million, giving Cogent a presence of 55 European markets in total.
And in August Cogent announced it had acquired a majority of the assets of Unlimited Fiber Optics, a San Francisco-based provider of point-to-point layer-two services.
