The offering targets business travelers, allowing them to use Vonage’s softphone client from vendor XTEN at Boingo’s network of Wi-fi hotspots in 11,000 airports, cafes and hotels around the world. The companies are planning a trial before the end of the year, and will make the bundle available through retail outlets where Vonage’s service currently can be purchased.

"History has shown that adding mobility to any type of communications has proven to be a winning combination, and I think we are on the verge of that happening again with VoIP," said Peter Barris, managing general partner of New Enterprise Associates and a board member for both Boingo and Vonage, in a statement.

Sky Dayton, Boingo founder and CEO, said Boingo also wants to integrate its software into Wi-Fi-ready phones.
