The Treasury Communications Enterprise contract initially is structured as a three-year deal, with seven one-year options that could lead to a total contract value of $1 billion. The network is being deployed to handle multiple traffic types, with voice over IP and real-time video applications as future considerations. Treasury Dept. users also will have online access to network performance reports and other data that can help them manage network usage.

AT&T Government Solutions, based in Vienna, Va., is sub-contracting the project to several IT firms, including Accenture, Lucent Technologies, BAE Systems, DreamHammer, GTSI and SRA.
