US LEC uses VoIP to expand T-1
US LEC is using voice over IP technology to give its customers additional voice channels beyond the 24 usually available on a single T-1 link. The company today announced BIGVoice, a new feature of its Dynamic T SIP product, which delivers 1.5 mb/s of dedicated Internet access over a T-1 plus while supporting more than 24 concurrent phone calls.

US LEC is a competitive local exchange carrier serving the eastern U.S.
The Dynamic T product allows available bandwidth to be re-allocated for Internet needs when voice calls are not in process.
The new capability enables customers to make greater use of their T-1 links, and thus cut costs, said Jeff Blackey, senior vice president of US LEC, in a prepared statement.
"Customers want a reliable provider that offers flexible communication options that grow along with their business," Blackey said. "BIGVoice uses the dynamic bandwidth allocation that is featured with our Dynamic T SIP product to deliver more than 24 simultaneous voice calls over a single T-1. By utilizing BIGVoice, customers may need fewer local loops, which can translate to monthly cost savings. Our goal is to continue developing applications for our Dynamic T product line that ensure customers benefit from emerging IP-based technology."
US LEC provides its VoIP service over a quality-controlled, facilities-based network that is equipped for E911 support.
