Motorola unveils dual-mode set-top
Motorola today formally introduced the digital set-top box that Verizon began using in its FiOS TV service, launched in late 2005.

The Motorola QIP family of set-tops features both traditional RF video, using quadrature amplication modulation (QAM) and IP video, and incorporates the multimedia over cable (MoCA) specification for sharing content within the home over existing coaxial cable.
The dual QAM-IP capabilities are an important part of Verizon's FiOS offering, since the company is using RF to deliver basic cable programming and IPTV for its video-on-demand and other advanced services.
Verizon is also the only telephone company to have joined the MoCA alliance and to announce plans to use MoCA for home networking.
The Motorola QIP family includes the QIP6416, a high-definition capable dual-tuner Digital Video Recorder; the QIP6200, a single-HD tuner set-top and the QIP2500, a single-tuner, standard definition model. The products are part of Motorola's new product offering at the International CES this week in Las Vegas.
