The company today announced client-based and Web-based virtual private network capabilities that will enable customers to establish secure links between remote computers and on-site computers and servers, and to securely access a business network via any Internet connection. The two services, EarthLink VPNLink and EarthLink WebLink, are interchangeable and built on software from Positive Networks.

"We don't intend to serve the enterprise market," said an EarthLink spokesman. "But this will enable our customers to grow with us."

Employees can stay connected to their business networks whether working from home or traveling. EarthLink said the service is designed to be much less expensive than hardware-based services.

The Positive Networks software enables customers to centrally manage security, resource control and end-user policies, as well as do constant monitoring of PCs and laptops connected to the VPN and detect intrusions such as viruses, firewall changes and spyware.
