The browser wars are heating up, enough so that an unexpected entrant appears to be hoping to make a splash with a new “3D-style” browser – AT&T.
Word of the new browser, dubbed the AT&T Pogo, appeared on some tech blogs today. The browser, which is still in a private, invite-only beta, comes from AT&T and 3D vendor Vizible (in which AT&T also has an investment).
The browser is built on the Mozilla/Firefox code base and loads pages like a regular browser. Where it differs is in managing multiple open windows. While most browsers today use tabbed windows, Pogo represents open pages visually with a 3D effect perhaps most akin to Apple’s iPod/iPhone “cover-flow.”
Vizible calls that 3D effect the “Cell,” and says it is designed for “capturing, re-purposing, movement and expression of multiple forms of digital content and media.”
