“Email is the lifeblood of business communications and all too often it is brought to a halt by something that can be easily prevented,” said Barbara Branaman, vice president and general manager of XO's hosting business unit, in a prepared statement. “Our Perimeter Email Protection service leverages our patented clustered hosting technology and email platform to provide a robust email security service that prevents unwanted email and attacks at the boundary of a customer's network.”

The new suite of email security capabilities include: User Validation, which validates incoming emails against a legitimate user list and rejects unwanted email before it hits the business server; Email Protection, which protects against email based DoS and dictionary attacks, along with spam; Email Disaster Recovery, which kicks in if the mail server goes down and reduces the loss of incoming mail, delivering email until the server is restored; and Reporting, which provides daily reports on email performance and protection.

The service is available to new and existing customers of hosting services from XO or its Concentric subsidiary, as well as XO Dedicated Internet Access and bundled services from XO.
