Willtek demonstrated its WCDMA testing capabilities to phone manufacturing customers in December and launched the option on its existing 4400 platform, which can now be used for several network technologies.
The 4400 focuses on four areas of measurement in phone testing: power, modulation, spectrum and receiver. "For the operator, it is a clear benefit if their phones adhere to the WCDMA specifications," said Matthias Weber, product manager at Willtek. "It will ensure that the cell site performance is a reflection of the planned performance."
The WCDMA system option provides a non-call mode of operation that includes a signal generator and analyzer function that can be used when tuning or aligning mobile phones in both manufacturing and service environments.
Since WCDMA is an evolving standard, Weber said, Willtek developed a new flexible architecture that is technology agnostic. "This means the functionality of the [system] boards are determined by the software loaded on them," he said.
This also allows Willtek to update the system as the standards evolve.
Over all, the 4400 now supports measurements for peak power, modulation quality, modulation spectrum, occupied bandwidth, adjacent channel leakage ratio and spectrum emission. The 4400 WCDMA tester has a strong focus on power measurements and now can generate constant wave and WCDMA-modulated signals and FM signals required to tune specific WCDMA phones.
