Network Engineer will now help carriers plan their anticipated rollout of high-bandwidth FTTP networks by providing visual design and management capabilities for network facilities, elements and inventory. Delivered with subsidiary MESA Solutions, which does geospatial network management consulting and system integration, Network Engineer can be used to plan, design and engineer both the outside plant and inside plant and connectivity needed to deliver the service expected to begin in limited amounts next year.

"Taking core fiber facilities to the home is an expensive proposition," said Doug Fantuzzi, group senior vice president of portfolio management at Telcordia. "So the value of this planning tool is to figure out how to deploy that technology in the most efficient way."

Network Engineer is a component of Telcordia’s Optical Management Portfolio and an extension of the ESRI ArcGIS platform, which enables the locating of network assets and inventory data. The solution also is a key component of Telcordia’s new Elementive portfolio of next generation solutions.

Telcordia is working with at least one Tier 1 carrier in the U.S. as it plans its rollout. Fantuzzi said network equipment manufacturers are also looking to incorporate some of Network Engineer’s features in their development.

In other news from TeleManagement World, Telcordia’s Roberta Cohen, senior group vice president, was named a Distinguished Fellow by the TeleManagement Forum. The appointment gives Cohen a lifetime membership to the organization and the opportunity to serve as a consultant on technical issues.

Cohen is the sixth person appointed a Distinguished Fellow award by the TMF. She has spent more than 25 years in telecommunications and currently manages programs in Telcordia’s wireless, cable land emerging markets. Cohen was instrumental in Telcordia’s Elementive launch. She adds this fellowship appointment to her IEEE/IFIPS Daniel A. Stokesbury Memorial Award in 1997. Cohen currently serves as chief information officer of the Communications Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
