Next-gen dynamicsoft acquires this-gen Teltier

One of the leading proponents of SIP-based technologies, Parsippany, NJ-based dynamicsoft, acquired Teltier Technologies today for an undisclosed sum. Teltier is based in nearby Clark, NJ, and like dynamicsoft, is a provider of solutions based on presence.

Together, dynamicsoft’s presence-based infrastructure products such as its AppEngine and Service Engine Architecture with Teltier’s presence and availability management software will serve both the 2G and 3G wireless markets.

The goal of the union is to accelerate the delivery of a subscriber-aware communications network to mobile operators, said Patrick Farley, president and CEO of dynamicsoft. “It’s all about making communications services that are sensitive to the actual desires and needs of the subscribers,” he said.

The companies take different but complimentary approaches to providing presence capabilities in the network. dynamicsoft’s products are based on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE). The company has been a leader in developing and promoting both protocols, which the 3GPP and 3GPP2 organizations have accepted as the standards for presence and voice signaling in 3G networks.

Teltier’s technology is based on the Presence and Availability Management (PAM) standard. The company builds application interfaces (APIs) that clients and applications can use to query for presence status from different repositories of data.

“What is really powerful about the combination of these two companies is that Teltier’s PAM-based approach is very much applicable to existing 2G networks and subscribers, where dynamicsoft is very much appropriate for nest generation networks and carriers with 3G deployments,” said Jim Tavares, director of product management at dynamicsoft.

Teltier’s value-added applications for 2G networks include adding features to voice mail services such as indicators for calls without messages and notification through call back or short message service when a party that wasn’t available when a call was placed becomes available.

“The wonderful thing about Teltier is there are a billion potential customers out there because there are a billion 2G phones still out there,” Tavares said.

dynamicsoft has under development a product called its Presence Engine into which it will now build PAM standards and capabilities from Teltier. The Presence Engine is a high-capacity repository of real-time presence data about subscribers. Dynamicsoft is working with two North American wireless operators deploying their 3G networks.

Tavares said with Teltier’s 2G solutions, dynamicsoft will be able to push presence information from those 2G networks to 3G.

“Our vision is that over time presence will become a fundamental part of all communication services,” Farley said.

Although the financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed, Farley said he expects Teltier to provide a positive financial contribution next year. “We have been doing very well and this is another good opportunity for us to accelerate the buildout of our products and accelerate the delivery of subscriber-aware communications networks to the mobile carriers,” he said.

The Teltier facilities in Clark will be shut down and the people will be consolidated into dynamicsoft’s Parsippany headquarters.
