HP was able to highlight its flexibility with a software deal based on its OpenView network management platform as well as a deal through its consulting and integration division that delivered a provisioning and management solution with partners and is based on its OpenView service activator software.

TI’s domestic wireline group announced it is using HP’s Integrated Service Management (ISM) solution for a trial it is conducting with Wi-Fi services. Telefonica will use the service activation solution for managing, configuring and tracking its broadband service.

For HP, the deals are testimony to its ability to help providers introduce new services and reduce their cost of operations, said Michele Campriani, worldwide marketing manager for OSS, HP network and service provider business unit.

And for the industry overall: “There is an overall realization by service providers that if you want to save money, OSS is a good place to start,” he added.

HP’s OpenView portfolio includes OpenView Operations, Network Node Manager, Service Activator and Internet Usage Manager, all tools to manage IP and information technology environments.

“Our service activator product is beginning to get more visibility in the market place,” Campriani said. Also getting a little visibility from the deals is the TeleManagement Forum’s New Generation Operations Systems and Software (NGOSS) framework. HP’s ISM platform is based on the electronic telecom operations map (e-TOM), which along with models comprises NGOSS, including the shared information and data (SID) model for systems analysis and design, the technology neutral architecture (TNA) for solution analysis and design and the compliance program.

“We are exploiting the full value of NGOSS,” Campriani said.

TI is testing more than 20 WiFi hotspots that are delivering broadband Internet, e-mail, instant messaging and video streaming. Telefonica is using HP’s service activator to integrate decision management and service management solutions from Telefonica de Espana and manage its Metro Ethernet solution.

In separate announcements, Telecom Italia also disclosed contracts with Granite Systems and Syndesis.
