NovaStor, a software vendor specializing in data backup and recovery, is working with service provider partners to set up emergency safe havens for data for victims of the series of hurricanes that have either hit the Southeast or are headed toward the same region. The effort comes after the company received a rash of calls from businesses and in some cases consumers in the South asking for names of service providers that could temporarily store data while they evacuated and shut down for days at a time, said Kelly Williams, director of marketing communications for NovaStor.

"In cases like this is nice to give something back," she said.

Both Michigan-based Midwest Tech Group and Tennessee-based Volstate have agreed to donate 10% of new account proceeds from Florida, Louisiana and other hurricane-stricken areas to local disaster relief agencies through the end of November.
