Telephony Promotes Dan O’Shea to Editor-in-Chief
O’Shea to lead Telephony’s editorial initiatives
Chicago, IL (January 30, 2006)-- Telecom’s leading publication for service providers, Telephony magazine, has named Dan O’Shea the new editor-in-chief. Formerly the news editor for Telephony, O’Shea will succeed Jason Meyers, who is leaving the organization to pursue other interests.
As editor-in-chief, O’Shea will assume a leadership role and will oversee all editorial processes for Telephony, the Wireless Review supplement and all e-newsletters, including the new international e-newsletter Global Telephony. Providing editorial direction and strategy, O’Shea will manage the development of content for the print and online editorial efforts, branded conferences and events, supplements and other special content projects. In addition, he will write news, technology and features for both print and online products.
“Having worked closely with Dan for over 13 years, I know that Dan’s experience, talent and deep knowledge of telecom will make him an exceptional leader for this highly experienced editorial team, " said Mark Hickey, publisher of Telephony. "Dan’s efforts will certainly add to the success of our products and we look forward to having him at the helm.”
O’Shea steps into his new role with more than 13 years of telecom journalism experience. He joined Telephony in 1993 as assistant news editor, covering the long-distance sector and emerging data access technology. In 1994 he became associate news editor and covered DSL, switching and wireless technology. O’Shea was promoted to technology editor in 1995 to oversee all of the publication’s technology coverage. He later became supplements editor in 1997 to manage the editorial supplements PCS Edge, Powering the Network, IP.net, Bandwidth and Upstart. When Upstart became a standalone publication in 2000, O’Shea was named editor-in-chief. In 2000, he joined the Primedia Business Magazines online subsidiary IndustryClick as content director for TelecomClick, the telecom industry portal. He rejoined the editorial staff of Telephony in 2001.
