Spatial will use TimesTen's system in the visitor location register (VLR) as part of the softswitch architecture that integrated the call server, a media gateway and element management solution. The objective is to allow carriers to develop and deploy new services in 3-6 months as opposed to the more typical 1-2 years.

The event processing system, which has been embedded in several other softswitches for both wireline and wireless applications, also is helping Spatial cut down its own time-to-market window.

“It made it so that we could get to market faster because we can use off-the-shelf equipment,” said Kathy McEwen, marketing manager for Spatial.

At an operational level, TimesTen’s software enables service providers to access subscriber and configuration information in real time.

“We give them a very efficient way of capturing the VLR changes,” said John Trembley, director of telecom and networking for TimesTen.
