The new WANport T-3 family of IP edge concentrators aggregates up to 12 incoming channelized T-3 traffic and then connects it to redundant gigabit Ethernet trunks and onto other edge routers. Seranoa claims the process and product can subscriber port costs by 75%, multiply subscriber capacity by 5 times or more and boost processor support for IP services.

“We’re taking the functionality of the WAN line cards and putting it into a box,” said Bob Olsen, vice president of marketing for Seranoa.

The company also is targeting the market of ISPs that need more than a few T-1s but can’t afford a full T-3 link using a T-1 bonding a multilink process.

“Multilink bonding is a processor intense function so the edge routers have great difficulty at scaling to this offering,” Olsen said.

Thus far, Seranoa has shipped product to seven beta test sites.
