The BLC6000 Systems also is the first to integrate gigabit Ethernet transport, eliminating the need for additional DSL access multiplexers, Ethernet switches, voice-over-IP gateways and optical ADMs. On the services side, Occam, which last month signed an OEM agreement with VocalData, claims the new system can support IP voice over Ethernet as well as emerging video services.

“It’s the first time we’ve built a product that ranges from POTS all the way up to real video,” said Russ Sharer, vice president of marketing and business development for Occam.

Among the more innovative developments on the new platform is the company’s integration of various transport technologies on each subscriber card. Instead of being forced to inventory cards for each type of service, carriers can have a single stockpile. It also eliminates the need for common control cards.
