The nCite SE, which is in a few commercial deployments, is targeted at applications such as local VoIP aggregation. The session controller, which consists of network elements that control and anchor both signaling and media across network domains and borders, can handle up to 21,000 simultaneous sessions, at rates of 300 calls per second, while incurring less than 50 microseconds latency.

Netrake currently is finding its greatest success in the Asian market where it counts NTT Comware among its customers. In fact, the specific needs of carriers in Asia play into Netrake’s strengths, said Micaela Guihat, assistant vice president of product management.

“The Asian market tends to need smaller capacity,” she said. “A lot of them want to start at 1000 simultaneous sessions [capacity] and build from there.”

The company’s initial release of nCite SE also is physically small with a low profile form factor.
