SIP Switch features include local extension numbers, single digit outside line capability, call forwarding and other advanced services. It integrates with SIP phones, soft clients and POTS and allows for the use of URLs and extension dialing.
"Our experience building modems told us customers want lots of functionality," said Martin Feuk, vice president of marketing and sales at Intertex.
Intertex was founded in 1982 and got its start building modems for dialup networks before moving on to firewalls, routers and ADSL modems.
Users of broadband telephony services can add several users from a single account across more than one SIP-based provider. The SIP Switch also supports ENUM, which it uses to verify whether or not a phone number has an SIP address before handing it off to the PSTN.
Intertex is targeting the SOHO market with the device and marketing it as enabling a migration path from PSTN to SIP-based communications for small businesses or home offices. The switch also adds PBX functionality without the PBX.
The company demonstrated the SIP Switch’s capability to emulate the PBX and allow soft clients, SIP phones and wireless PDAs to call each other using extension dialing, URLs and regular phone numbers. It also demonstrated the use of presence, instant messaging and video.
