The F-1000 operates over most Wi-Fi networks, including public hot spots, enabling Vonage’s 400,000 customers to use the phone from a variety of locations. The company said it would begin shipping the device between April and June of this year.

Vonage subscribers typically pay $24.99 a month for unlimited local and long-distance calls over Internet connections. In late 2004, the company announced a Wi-Fi roaming trial with service provider Boingo Wireless, although it is unknown whether the F-1000 will work as part of that agreement.
