Moldflow has six sites in the U.S., four in Asia and seven in Europe. “It is a great example of the types of opportunities we are beginning to see,” said David Lowe, director of product marketing for Cable & Wireless IP networking solutions. “Good, medium- to large-sized companies, multinational in nature and looking to migrate their global wide area network from a legacy frame infrastructure to an IP solution. There are thousands of companies that fit that same model.”

Lowe said Cable & Wireless already provides hosting services to Moldflow and got the WAN business by delivering greater capacity than its existing network for about the same price. The carriers global network capabilities didn’t hurt either.

Moldflow increased its capacity from typical 64 Kbps Frame Relay links to 256 Kbps IP ports. The solution from cable & Wireless is an Internet-based IP-VPN that uses encrypted tunneling over the Internet rather than dedicated circuits. It uses Nortel Contivity as its premise equipment.

“They now have a network they can use to deploy voice-over-IP or video to the desktop without having to deploy new network infrastructure,” Lowe said.
