The softswitches will be deployed in Dallas, Los Angeles and New York as class four switches. Each switch can provide 37,600 fully protected voice channels and will be used to offer aggregated origination and termination services on the net via SS7 in 92 of the largest North American markets.

"One of the biggest reasons we’re deploying is to groom traffic," said Andre Temnorod, CEO at Broadvox. "We’ll be able to screen calls before they’re actually routed."

The contract is the first significant deal announced from Telica since Lucent announced that it plans to buy the company and integrate the PLUS architecture into its softswitch development plans. The fact that Telica is being acquired, however, doesn’t bother Temnorod, who is more focused on the capabilities of their platform.

"Telica is not just a switch," he said. "It’s a highly integrated combination of media gateway, media gateway controller and signaling controller. Lucent is definitely getting a good product."
