Global Crossing, which will launch an IP Account Codes application early this year, is deploying the network services platform in part because its existing SCP is being discontinued, said Amol Joshi, vice president of marketing for BayPackets.

"They weren’t looking at it just as a solution for authorization codes," he said. "They wanted the ability to customize and change those applications for specific customers. Initially it will run as a TDM SCP."

The new service in an IP environment will allow Global Crossing’s enterprise customers to control service access and/or third-party billing. BayPackets platform will allow the carrier to provide public network connectivity either through a traditional SS7 interface or a SIP interface.

In the Global Crossing deployment, the carrier will use the platform to perform database dips on incoming TDM traffic then route, complete or block incoming calls based on their specific code.

"It’s important for fraud prevention," said Brian Michael, director of marketing for BayPackets.
