Targeting the burgeoning broadband residential VoIP market, the two companies see plenty of opportunity with carriers that want into the market but don’t have an end-to-end IP network. Among the bigger potential targets is cable operators and new competitive carriers that want to offer differentiate their VoIP services from traditional circuit switch carriers’.
“They really need new services that they could bring to their customers today in spite of the state of their networks,” said Amol Joshi, vice president of marketing for BayPackets. “Very few carriers have a complete IP-based networks.”
BayPackets' application server is a SIP Servlet platform with several ready-to-deploy application such as unified messaging, conferencing, voice VPN and advanced toll free services. The company also offers a software development kit. AudioCodes, which acquired its media server line from Nortel last year, will provide the media processing for applications.
Though initially targeted at residential providers, Joshi said, the applications may lean more toward work-at-home consumers.
“A lot of them are remote employees but they don’t really have business services,” he said. “None of these broadband providers are offering things like conferencing.”
