Allstream, calling its service Global Roaming for Internet Access, will bundle GRIC's MobileOffice software and Wi-Fi services to corporate customers in Canada seeking remote wireless access for their employees. GRIC provides them with more than 35,000 wired and wireless access points—2000 of which are public Wi-Fi access venues--in more than 170 countries worldwide.
AT&T, still a major partner of Allstream since the company completed a restructuring and re-branding in June, already supplements its remote access dial-up and broadband VPN services with GRIC’s wireline and Wi-Fi reach.
Global Roaming for Internet Access will be enabled automatically for Allstream's dial-up access customers, and also will include customer support, software maintenance and reporting capabilities.
"This global remote access service will benefit customers, particularly those with frequent U.S. and international business requirements for their workforce, looking to provide their employees with seamless and user-friendly mobility and connectivity capabilities from virtually anywhere in the world,” said Mike Kologinski, executive vice president of marketing at Allstream.
