The router, officially the NetVanta 300 Series of fixed-port, ADSL2+ routers of which the 340 will be the first, supports ADSL, ADSL2, and ADSL2+ for extended reach with downstream speeds up to 25 Mb/s. The 300 router series is based on the company’s operating system, which supports a number of routing protocols. Among the alphabet soup of protocols, the router supports BGP, OSPF and RIP.

Additionally, the router includes an integral stateful inspection firewall, quality of service support, SIP application layer enhancements for VoIP; network address translation and DHCP server/client. At the physical layer, the router has a single ADSL network interface and one Ethernet interface.

"We’re seeing a lot of traction as a lot of these CLECs are needing to host their own equipment as UNE-P is going away," said Eric Lewis, product manager for Adtran.

The NIM meanwhile is targeted more at the enterprise side of the market. The most recent version is compatible with all NetVanta 1000, 3000, and 4000 series routers and switch-routers. The new NIM offers a single ADSL interface and the option for dial backup via an analog or ISDN BRI plug-on Dial Backup Interface Module.
