Led by Advanced Technology Ventures, the second round brings to $31 million the total funding raised by Acme Packets. Menlo Ventures and Canaan Partners, who initially backed the company, also participated in the round.

This investment comes just a week after Acme announced that Global Crossing would use its product in a new voice-over-IP service. In fact, the past quarter has seen a number of customer announcements and partnerships including deals with Capcom International, Lucent Technologies, MetaSwitch and Sonus Networks.

“Our progress on customer traction and customer announcements were critical in this,” said Jim Hourihan, vice president of marketing and product management for Acme Packet. “In terms of session border controllers, we have the most announced customers in that category.”
