MoCA finishes first cert wave
The Multimedia over Coax Alliance announced that it has finished its first wave of interoperability certification. Actiontec, Entropic, Linksys, Mototech, Motorola, Panasonic, 2Wire and Westell-all of whom participated in MOCA’s first plugfest--successfully passed and were awarded MoCA certification.

Additionally, MoCA said it has ratified and released its MAC/PHY v1.0 Specification, which includes a certification test plan and procedures.
During the certification process, MOCA staff supervised the process, which took place at Verizon Labs in Waltham, Mass. The process itself involved what MOCA labels “golden nodes,” or nodes that have already been certified as complying with MOCS.
“Companies had to show up with eight [of their own] nodes,” said Ladd Wardani, President of MoCA “They had to make an eight-node network and make all combination of networks to make sure they interoperate.”
MOCA’s certification board is now working with multiple independent labs, two of which were trained at, and assisted with, the certification wave. Those independent labs will be able to test MOCA-compliant devices starting in the second quarter. The Certification Board then will review results and awarding certification.
“Everybody in MOCA is busy and we’d rather have a third-party do the testing,” Wardani said, noting that multiple labs also give vendors flexibility in scheduling tests.
A second certification wave, also hosted at the Verizon Labs, is scheduled for April 17.
