Ovum-RHK: Cogent has the most U.S. Ethernet ports

Cogent Communications has more Ethernet ports in service throughout the United States than any other service provider, according to research and analysis firm Ovum-RHK. But in terms of Ethernet revenue, Cogent ranked third.

Though the number of Cogent Ethernet ports in service is unknown, a company spokesman said it is “almost” equal to the number of customers Cogent has in the U.S.: 8700.

Cogent, whose primary Ethernet service is a 100 Mb/s commercial Internet access service for $1000 per month, reported net service revenue of more than $15 million in North America and more than $5 million in Europe for the first quarter of 2005.
