ANT is working with set-top vendor Telsey, systems integrator Accenture and Alcatel for its Open Media Client software. Additionally, the U.K.-based company will generate revenue from the provision of architectural consultancy services.

“We’re supporting all the interactive services,” said Simon Woodward, CEO of ANT. “Any interaction between the user and the TV, even down to changing the channel, is managed by our software.”

Telecom Italia’s launch of IPTV is one of the more ambitious efforts by an incumbent telco. Initially, the carrier is offering the service in four cities--Rome, Milan, Bologna, Palermo--to a total of 2 million homes. The company has major expansion plans, though, with a goal of reaching 250 cities and 8 million homes by the end of 2006, Woodward said.
