The fourth release of Alcatel’s 1671 Service Connect platform offers a total capacity of 240 Gb/s, three times the capacity of the previous release.

Originally introduced in the summer of 2004, the 1671 was designed to help carriers migrate to IP/MPLS networks by aggregating and grooming various types of traffic, such as ATM and frame relay, before handing it off to IP networks. The product has been particularly popular among wireless carriers, including Cingular Wireless, Alcatel said.
