The five TRs, all approved at the forum’s quarterly meeting in Philadelphia this week, are designed to give carriers more control over both voice over IP management and quality of service. Additionally, the TRs extend the reach of carriers into the home to encompass customer premises equipment beyond DSL modems and home gateways.

All five TRs will fall under the TR-069/TR-064 "family" of provisioning and management specifications for CPE. They are:

  • TR-098: DSLHome Internet Gateway Device Version 1.1 Data Model for TR-069
  • TR-104: DSLHome Provisioning Parameters for VoIP CPE
  • TR-106: DSLHome Data Model Template for TR-069 Enabled Devices
  • TR-110: DSLHome Reference Models for VoIP Configurations
  • TR-133: DSLHome TR-064 Extensions for Service Differentiation

"The new management specifications enable service providers to bring enhanced services over DSL to market more quickly and efficiently,” Michael Brusca, chairman of the DSL Forum, said in a statement. “Not only can DSL broadband connections enable automatic configuration of routers, they can also configure devices that connect to them as well. On top of that, specific services such as digital voice, video broadcasts, games and conferencing can be provisioned to particular performance needs.”

The forum’s approval of the TRs comes at a time when others industrywide groups are pushing for a comprehensive set of standards built around the next-generation of home services. Earlier this month, the Alliance for Telecommunications Industry Solutions officially launched an IPTV group to develop interoperability standards among several network elements including the in-home network.
