Speak, as it’s being referred to by the vendor, blends an off-the-shelf IP conferencing application with a programmable horizontal SIP application server platform. The result is an IP conferencing application that can be turned up in less than 60 days and a Service Delivery Platform (SDP) that allows for additional applications including residential VoIP. Previously the vendor was offering its platform only through a professional services arm.

While the company is promoting the ability to offer those new applications, the current ones had to be tackled first, said John Nye, product manager for Ubiquity.

“We think there’s a strategic value in a platform that lets you incorporate new features,” he said. “The underlying product objective was to make sure we matched up on a feature-for-feature perspective with the existing TDM solutions out there. This about a giving a conference service provider or telco the ability to de-risk the rollout of an IP conferencing experience.”

Built on the company’s SIP application server, Speak includes a traditional DTMF controlled feature set as well as a Web-based graphical user interface, which should appeal to carriers, Nye said.

“That GUI facilitates a lot of the services that an operator service would traditionally be handling,” he said. “So there’s a large labor cost savings.”
