The two equipment vendors agreed in April 2006 to jointly develop three IP home gateways for use with Motorola’s existing multiservice access platform. As part of the three-year deal, Motorola agreed to pay Amedia $1.9 million for its development work, and Amedia agreed to grant Motorola the exclusive right to resell its PG1000 and HG-V100 gateways to certain big carriers for two years.

At the end of last month, they replaced that agreement with a new one wherein Motorola takes on all engineering, production and support for the gateways and pays license fees to Amedia. Motorola will pay Amedia $5 for every unit it manufactures. Those payments begin with a lump sum of $200,000 for the first 40,000 gateways.
