Cisco Systems led the market, taking 56% of that revenue, while second-place Juniper Networks took 21%. Huawei Technologies, whose edge router sales more than doubled in the second quarter, remained in third place, capturing 9% of the market, with Alcatel following close behind it.
The majority (57%) of the IP edge router market for the quarter was dedicated to standard applications such as routing, IP VPNs and wireless backhaul, Infonetics said, while broadband remote access server functions represented 29%. Multiservice convergence comprised 14% of the IP edge router market in the quarter, but Infonetics predicts it will be the fastest-growing segment over the next three years, as the overall IP router market grows 12% to 20%.
