The metro ROADM market shrank 36% sequentially to $56 million in the second quarter, Infonetics said.
Fujitsu commanded more than 75% of the global metro ROADM market in 2004, and more than 80% of the North American market, thanks mainly to sales of its Flashwave 7500 platform to Japanese carriers and American cable operators, according to RHK (now Ovum-RHK).
Cisco introduced ROADM capabilities in its ONS 15454 multiservice transport platform at the Supercomm trade show in June 2004.
Earlier this month, UBS Investment Research predicted Fujitsu was the most likely winner of a metro ROADM request for proposals (RFP) issued by Verizon Communications, which UBS estimated to be worth $50 million per year. Verizon, which plans to deploy metro ROADM next year, said earlier this month that no decision had been made on the RFP.
