Though the company isn’t public, and doesn’t release its financials, it occasionally announces customer numbers and ports shipped. Today’s announcement also included the fact that Calix now has more than 170 incumbent telcos using its C7 platform, and that 5,500 platforms have been put in service.
“It’s a pretty significant milestone,” said Kevin Walsh, vice president of marketing for the vendor. “You certainly get to a point in deployments where it’s no longer questionable as to the sustainability of the platform.”
Much of the growth toward one million ports has occurred in the past 12 months. Calix signed new customers at a rate of two per week during the last quarter, and has been shipped 200,000 ports in the last two quarters, Walsh said.
The numbers released today also show that many Calix customers are moving beyond providing just broadband data service. More than 20 percent of the vendor’s customers now are providing IPTV service. Additionally, for almost one year, Calix has been shipping only ADSL2+ line cards. Those cards can be used in traditional ADSL deployments, Walsh added, noting that that is what the majority of customers are providing.
